Uptown Girl Cupcakes and Dessert

I have crucial tasks when it comes to road tripping and finding good cupcakes is one of them. Lo and behold, I found some. Uptown Girl Cupcakes and Desserts. How cute is this place?! Lots of bright, bold, effeminate colors, it’s no surprise that its run by two fun, creative women. Part boutique, part haven for the sweets lovers, Yvonne Overson and Melynda Harjes know their stuff.  I tried that Coffee and Donuts one you see pictured, and that other one right there is the Fat Elvis, a flurry of banana, peanut butter and bacon. Speaking of desserts, they also make a beer lovers cake! I got stars in my eyes just looking at them!  Starting as a food truck, Uptown Girl has a permanent storefront off 3rd Avenue in downtown White Bear Lake and is my last stop before making the trek to Princeton. But don’t worry, I’ll be back in the fall for apple pie cupcakes and peach cobbler.

The Docks of White Bear Lake

Now that’s a view to write home about.. The docks of White Bear Lake are pretty incredible this time of year. You can see everything. Sit dockside at Tally’s, grab food at C.G’s, hang out on the patio at Acqua or Admiral D’s, or just grab an adirondack chair on the marina. Not just a pretty vantage point either, they also offer seasonal boat slip rental, a private boat launch, and boat and trailer storage. My suburban version of up north. Now seems like a good time to go hunting for cupcakes…

Cup and Cone

Like a moth to a flame, I succumbed to peer pressure and got in line. Since White Bear Lake is already known for its summer festivities, it’s no wonder why middle-of-the-night ice cream runs are not only possible but a requirement. Insert Cup and Cone. Celebrating its 40th anniversary, the town favorite has become a local tradition. A business that is three generations deep, Cup and Cone is simple; ice cream and sandwiches. Nothing more, nothing less. As far as my recommendation is concerned – I say try the candy bar malts or the Crunchy Creme. And yes, that line is always that long.

The Meet Market

I’m a wanderer by nature, and it’s worse when I’m on a road trip. I start walking, usually guided by the smell of food waifing in the air, and some how come out of my nutriment daze in a maelstrom of ice cream or barbecue sauce. And as far as the #MNBucketListRoadTrip is concerned, I played to this talent. Originally enticed by the smell, I walked into The Meet Market in search of cheese curds. Got some BUT also witnessed the very generously portioned burgers. Um, seriously, look at that! Such a good after-boating stop. Originally opened in 2014, Market recently went through a remodel. P.S. They are also owned by the same people who run Acqua in Forest Lake and White Bear Lake. Can you guess where to next?
