Fall is the perfect time to go check out the local apple orchards.

Fresh Honeycrisp, apple pie, caramel apples, apple cider, hayrides, corn mazes… you name it, I’m for it.

To that end, I give you, Pine Tree Apple Orchard in White Bear Lake. Known just as well for their strawberries, Pine Tree Apple Orchard began with its first apple trees being planted on the shore of Pine Tree Lake in 1904.

Later coming into the Jacobson family, the orchard has grown considerably even having a second location in Preston, Minnesota. While the strawberry season has come and gone, we’ve now entered into the season of apples and pumpkins.

Visiting the orchard is a great way to spend a fall day because there’s so much to do.

Walk the paths to see some of the oldest apple trees, take a wagon ride through the orchard and learn about the history, head into the corn maze where you can try to word scramble and get a prize, make a trip to the general store where you can find all kinds of homemade pie, cookies, bread, buns, cake, muffins, jellies, jams and all sorts of other goodies.

It is packed with all kinds of things. If you’re not sure which apple you like best, there are displays of all the different apples you can try. You can also get a front-row seat and watch as they pick through and select the perfect apple.

There is also an on-site bakery that you can sneak a peek into. Or you can head into the café where you can pick up warm caramel apples and cold cinnamon ice cream.

If you stop by at the right time, you can take your sugary treats down to the picnic area where there is live entertainment including the likes of Bill Cagley, Bandanahhh! and the Elizabethan Syngers.

Finally, on your way out, pick up a bag of apples and a six-pack of apple cinnamon donuts for later.

Do you have a favorite apple orchard that’s become an annual tradition to visit? If so, which one and what do you have so much about it?
