Steve’s Pizza is an airy, straightforward, open-late pizza joint in downtown Austin.
A menu filled with a plethora of Italian options like lasagna, alfredo, linguine, and their magnum opus, pizza.
Of course, there are the fan favorites like a Mama Mia with pepperoni and sausage; a Mighty Meat pizza with pepperoni, sausage, beef, salami, and Canadian bacon, and Hawaiian with Canadian bacon and pineapple. But they add a twist with Greek chicken pizza, with onions, red and green peppers, chicken and Kalamata dressing, and topping options like SPAM, anchovies, and feta sauce. Yep, SPAM. And it’s a total hit!
Steve and Angela Davis opened Steve’s Pizza in 1978, becoming a town staple. Originally on Second Ave. NE, Steve’s moved to its current location, Main St., in the former Granle’s building in March 2009 to make room for the Mower County Jail and Justice Center.
Lots of parking, a big game room making it a popular family rest stop and, oddly enough, I found that during non-peak hours, it’s a great place to study.
I grabbed a thick crust, sauerkraut, and green olive pizza. I know, I know. Don’t even tell me you don’t have some crazy concoction you LOVE. Tell me, what is YOUR favorite pizza topping?
