If you are starting to go a bit mad with cabin fever, I have a suggestion.
Brave the cold and head over to Jimmy’s Pro Billiards just off Central in Columbia Heights / Northeast.
Some call it the best pool hall in the Twin Cities, the place is named for Jimmy Wetch, the very friendly and personable owner who was a former pro billiard player.
Not surprisingly, the place is a pool lovers paradise. The moniker reads, “22 Pool Tables – 22 Burgers – 22 Beers,” and Jimmy’s lives up to the hype.
There are indeed 22 burgers on the menu: everything from classic burgers to novelties like the taco, Reuben, and Italian. While the burgers are the pièce de résistance, the hand-cut fries were a fast favorite of mine. Crispy and greasy, meltingly soft in the middle and served with homemade sauces – so good!
22 sounds about right when you look across the sea of pool tables; over ten 7′ Diamond tables, about five 9′ Brunswick, and about five 9′ Diamonds.
Even though league nights are plenty full, they always seem to have a few open pool tables to play.
When it comes to beers, the one thing to note is that there are no taps, just bottles. Open tables, endless burger options, and so many ale choices, what else could you want.
