It’s not exactly a secret that I love ice cream. A summer staple for this region, it only makes sense for me to give you a week of my latest ice cream finds as the summer is quickly coming to a close. Soon it will be donut runs and before-class coffee dates, but for now… Let’s savor in the lactose sweetness for a few days. Beginning with the most recently iconic, Milkjam Creamery. Quite possibly the busiest ice creamery I’ve ever been to, Milkjam is the brain child of Sameh Wadi, chef/co-owner of Saffron Restaurant and World Street Kitchen. He teamed up with Ben Spangler, the former pastry chef of Zelo to create what is widely revered as the most progressive ice cream parlor in Minnesota. Vegan, yep. Creative, oh yeah. Insane, no doubt. Sure, you can get the run-of-the-mill ice cream by the cone or pint, but you can go to a whole other dimension of options with things like the Jam Bun; a signature ice cream scoop sandwiched in between a Glam Doll Donut, or the Lambic Beer Floats. The pièce de résistance of course being the “All of Them” sundae; a sundae with a scoop of each flavor, 16 typically, of that day. A brilliantly stunning display of flavors like Halle Berry, Moulin Rouge, Cereal Killers, Bad Grandpa, Hard Knock Life, Pikachu and Ridin’ Duuurty, with toppings like Smoked Almond Brittle, Curried Peanuts, Szechuan Berry, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, House Honeycomb Candy, and Caramelized Rice Crispies. See, I tried to tell ya. Have you made it here yet? Any favorite flavors?
