Have you heard of QC Pizza? Short for Quad City, QC Pizza is between Century and 494 in Mahtomedi and is the only place you will find Quad-City style pizza in Minnesota.
What is Quad style, you say? Well, let me explain.
Quad-City Style Pizza comes from the Quad Cities region of northwest Illinois and southeastern Iowa.
Malt is used in the dough to create a less sweet, more nutty flavor.
It is hand tossed, then covered in a sauce filled with red chili flakes and ground cayenne, making it perfect for those who prefer spicy and savory.
Originally a technique created by Tony Maniscalco Sr. of Tony’s Pizzeria in 1952, this style has most, if not all, toppings under the in-house grated cheese.
Dennis Schneekloth opened QC this year, bringing this unique style to Minnesota. With a hard line drawn in the sand about quality ingredients and customer service, just ask Dennis about the effort it takes to make the perfect pie. From wine soaked mushrooms to twice ground pork sausage, QC is not to be overlooked.
My favorite part? The Kinda Big Dill Pizza. Hands down the most Minnesota pizza you will find. Remember Pickle Roll-ups, also know as Minnesota sushi? It is where you spread cream cheese over deli ham and wrap it around a pickle. If you wanted to get fancy, you would slice and serve on toothpicks. Imagine that as a gooey, cheese, melt-in-your-mouth pizza! Thickly sliced cuts of Canadian Bacon that has been smoked for 48 hrs with a garlic dill sauce and pickles on top of the warm, malt-made crust. Mmmm, so good!
