Formerly the St. Clair Sweet Shoppe in the 1940’s, the St. Clair Broiler first started serving broiled hamburgers in St Paul in 1956. They have seen the gamut of neighborhood changes to local and national celebrity patrons like Hubert Humphrey and Al Gore. Unrelated, Gore and I have the same affliction for SCB Hot Fudge Malts. It has also changed hands a few times, most recently from one Theros family member to another. The latest made their name through Rudolph’s Bar-B-Que in Minneapolis so it’s no surprise that you can order Rudolph’s spare ribs at their new endeavor. You can also get Minnesota craft beers, breakfast favorites like P.J.’s One Egger and the Hangover Helper, and even their version of the Juicy [Lucy] Burger. If you’re in the mood for more, try the Kitchen Sink Burger. It’s hard to go wrong with a place that’s been around 60 years.
