When it comes to the Minnesota State Fair, happy people are a good indication of a worthwhile stop. The Ball Park Cafe on Underwood, between Carnes and Dan Patch Avenues, is just that. A favorite of the Lift Bridge folk, adding it our “Drink Your Way Through the Fair” trek, The Ball Park Cafe is the place to go for open-air seating and Twins games. Established 1999 and owned by the brothers Theisen who, as kids, worked for their father, Igy, who owned Lendway’s Restaurant on University Avenue in St. Paul (now closed). They are famous for their deep-fried ribs, signature garlic fries (Brad’s favorite!) and their Craft Beer Territory that includes Lift Bridge’s Farm Girl, Hop Dish and the State Fair famous Mini Donut Beer. Served in a glass rimmed with cinnamon and sugar, Mini Donut Beer has a warm tan color, like a mini donut. Much less messy than the fried dough confectionery, too! Win-win.
