The last (but certainly not least) stop of my week of ice cream is a well-known, dare I say iconic, one. Izzy’s Ice Cream, my favorite of the two locations, just off Gold Medal Park, is, well… I mean, who doesn’t know Izzy’s?! Owned by Lara Hammel (a Lawyer by trade) and Jeff Sommers (a language arts Teacher) who met at Hamline. Together, with a deep love of ice cream, community service and local ingredients, created the Best Ice Cream Shop in the Country, crowned by Reader’s Digest in May of 2005. Even better, they were also featured on the Food Network’s Throw Down with Bobby Flay in 2006. More recently Izzy’s just had a Rooftop Ice Cream Social with Dessa. I know, right? Back to what you came here for, ICE CREAM. Okay, so I admit, I’ve been here a few times… I had to try it more than once, how else could I tell you about all my favorite flavors? Peppermint Bon Bon, Butter Pecan, Maple Nut, Mint Chocolate Chip, Salted Caramel, and my front-runner, Candy Bar. And don’t just think all those only come in cones. I’m talkin’ ice cream cakes, sandwiches, pops and pints. Can’t get there in person, no worries, they ship anywhere in the USA. How sweet is that?
