If you are looking something to do now, or any weekend until October 4th, I suggest the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. Beginning in Jonathan, in 1971, it now calls Shakopee home. The largest of its kind in the U.S., it has become a paradise for cosplay with jousting knights, belly dancers, glinty mermaids, court jesters, glittery fairies, blacksmiths, medieval artisans, Lords, Ladies, royalty, jugglers, steampunkers, palm readers, kilt wearers, floral crown wearing maypole dancers, pirates and even the occasional trekkie. Come stop by to see a show, people watch, attend an event or eat like a King. Everything from a Fairytale Princess Party to a Pub Crawl to Magic the Gathering. Oh! And they have an insult game where you can throw tomatoes! From live music to eating, it’s a one of a kind experience. I personally go for pickle on a stick but others rave about the huge turkey legs, ‘steak on a stake’ and lots of beer. Tickets are $22.95 ($13.95 for kids) at the gate, advanced tickets cost less and can be found online OR you can bring five canned food-shelf donations to receive $5 off a ticket.
