When it comes to art, I naturally gravitate toward local. Lucky coincidence because St. Paul’s Dow Artist Studios had their annual open house, Do The Dow, this weekend and I was able to get my fill. An exhibition that featured work from 25 different artists including Carolyn Brunelle, Noreen Tyler, Martha Kuzzy, Joan Cox, Steve Wewerka, Ute Bertog, Anders Himmelstrup, Bettye Olson, Space 369, Debra Ripp, Karen Searle, Laurie Johnson, Ruth Donhowe, Thom Lister,   Kevin Caufield, Greta Claire, Ryan Sapp, Ann Meany, Tim Monsters, Madcapzest,  Erik Pearson, Patty Paulus, Josh Capistrant, Dow Art Gallery and Women’s Drum Center, Colette Ricci, Jason Kaping, Robert Delutri, and Steve Carlyle. Paintings, drawings, pottery, photography, prints, sculpture, mixed media, fiber arts, book making, you name it – the Dow has it. Built in 1923 and converted to artist studios in 1987, the Dow Building is one of the oldest buildings in the Twin Cities and hosts more than 50 Twin Cities artists. With 4 floors and 4,000 square feet of creative space, The Dow is also home to the Dow Gallery, Space 369 and the Women’s Drum Center. The open house allowed the public to connect with the artists in their studios while taking in live local music and refreshments provided by New Belgium Brewery. It doesn’t stop there, the open house supported a great cause, too! 50% of the proceeds benefit the Urban Arts Academy. Have you perused on the many artist oasis’s at the Dow yet?
