This past Saturday was the @Minnstameets x @4PlayMSP – Winter 4Play. With a whole day of braving the cold and taking part in some of the most Minnesotan things you can do, we all showed why we are The North. Taking over Fort Snelling Lake Beach in Fort Snelling State Park, we grabbed maps, mixed and mingled by the bonfire while making s’mores with Impact Hub MSP and Newcomer Nosh while singing with the Coro Flamenco Street Choir (so much fun!). We also took part in guided hikes with the U.S. Forest Service, saw globe ice lantern demonstrations, completed the artist-created exercise course by Northern Lights.MN to claim our ARTathlon medals, watched fearless souls try the Nordic-style Little Box Sauna in bathing suits, attempted cross-country skiing and snowshoeing with REI. The National Park Service helped us with ice fishing, ice harvesting and ice sculpting. We learned what quinzee is with Wilderness Inquiry, played with dogs from the Furry Best Friends the Sled Dog Skijoring station, had grilled cheese and pasties from food trucks, fueled up with hot chocolate complements of the Jeffers Foundation while taking part in the Minnesota N*ICE Breaker Icebreaking Station with Saint Paul Hello and eating KIND Snacks and staying hydrated with Resqwater.
It was amazing to see how fast Minnesotans jump right into the action, no matter the temperature! We embraced the wind and snow and made the very best of the day. The day came to a close with a HUGE snowball fight. No one was safe from the wrath of the frozen precipitation!
DON’T FORGET! Get over to Instagram and tag your shots from the event to #4playmsp for a chance to win one of three $100 REI gift cards or an assortment of winter accessories. Deadline to tag: Wednesday, 1/13 at 5:00pm.
