Jax Cafe

Jax Cafe has been a Northeast Minneapolis neighborhood staple, a landmark if you will, since opening its doors in the early 1900s. Now in its third generation of ownership, Jax began when great-grandfather, Stanley Kozlak, built a local dance hall and a store to sell furniture, hardware, and funeral services (I know, right?!).
When prohibition ended in 1933, armed with a liquor license, Jax Bar and Cafe opened where the main bar lives today.  Moving to the next generation in 1943, Joseph and Gertrude purchased the cafe. The business has since passed to its current owners, keeping with the warm welcome and traditional atmosphere Jax has always had.
The atmosphere is sophisticated but casual with old-school charm, as a piano makes its home in the middle of the restaurant. The garden patio adds to the character of Jax, making it the perfect place for date night, celebrations or Sunday brunch!
