St Paul Hello

welcome hat st paul hello

New to Saint Paul? Know someone who is? The first Tuesday of each month the Minnesota History Center will host ourWelcome Hat ceremony. Join us for a night highlighting the best of your new community: listen to local music, grab a drink and sample some food, find out about a variety of local businesses and organizations, plus, a local celebrity will be on hand to make sure you have the proper head gear for the winter season. You see the key to surviving your first Minnesota winter is a warm hat, but not just any hat — an Elmer Fudd, earflap faux fur hat.

Organized by Saint Paul Hello, a partnership that celebrates and connects newcomers to the city of Saint Paul and the state of Minnesota. Newcomers will be greeted by over 25 community organizations, along with food and beverage samples from local restaurants and breweries , a scavenger hunt around the museum to collect “pro tips” from Minnesotans, and, of course, a warm winter hat which will be presented by Desdamona and Deputy Mayor Kristin Beckmann!

Event is free, family-friendly, and open to everyone; Newcomers and returnees to Saint Paul (who’ve made the move within the last year or so) are invited to register online at  to receive their Welcome Hat.

We want to be the first ones to say, “Welcome to Saint Paul!” We’re so glad that you moved to Minnesota, and we want to make sure you feel like you are an official member of our community.

Nice Breakers are events in which our friendly Ambassadors partner with an organization to attend one of their events in order to greet and help connect attendees with each other and the host organization. We know it can be intimidating to go to events alone when you are new to a city, so our Nice Breaker Ambassadors are here to help break the ice!
If you are interested in attending any of the upcoming events, please register at the link provided and meet our Ambassadors at the start of the event. You will recognize them by their green Saint Paul Hello T-shirts! If you have any questions, please feel free to be in touch. If you would like to be removed from this mailing list, please let us know.

Meet the Nice Breakers

So, you’ve moved to Minnesota. Now what?

Is your calendar looking a little empty? Do you want to: meet other new people, investigate a new community, learn more about Saint Paul, find a family friendly event, or just have some fun out in the Twin Cities?

People who move to Minnesota – whether new or returning – sometimes find it  difficult to develop new networks and find a sense of community, both socially & professionally. Nice Breakers, are here to help. We are co-hosting a series of activities & events in Saint Paul designed to get people connected. At each event, one of our friendly Nice Breaker Ambassadors will be there to greet you and initiate interaction and camaraderie among attendees. Our goal is to help you develop new friendships and foster connections that will make you feel part of your community.

From fun & frivolous to cause or culturally-oriented, activities can range from social (gastropub crawl), recreational (ice fishing foray), civic (park clean-up), creative (build a street puppet), to ethnic/cultural (Hmong New Year excursion). Check out the variety of events below and join us!

In addition, we have our next Welcome Hat event on Tuesday, January 5th from 5-7:30pm at the Minnesota History Center. If you know any more newcomers or returnees, be sure to tell them about the event!
