The Buttered Tin

The Buttered Tin is a warm and welcoming corner café and bakery in Saint Paul, just up the block from CHS Field and the Union Depot.

A Lowertown neighborhood staple since 2013, the place has a line out the door – with good reason.

As soon as you walk in, you will be greeted by the ornate delectables in the bakery case and those decoratively displayed on the counters.

Bags of homemade granola, buttermilk-thyme biscuits, sunflower bread, gorgeous tiered cakes and cupcakes, and other elaborate sweets for buffet tables or just a pick-me-up.

The open kitchen concept ushers you in and the cozy booths and tabletops along the windows invite you to stay awhile.

If you stop in for breakfast or brunch as I did, try the Pig’s Eye breakfast, huevos rancheros Benedict, banana foster french toast or tomato basil soup served with grilled cheese croutons.

My favorite was the two-faced Caprese, fresh mozzarella, tomato, arugula, pickled onions, basil pesto and lemon aioli on house-made focaccia.

Do you have a favorite neighborhood bakery cafe? If so, what is your favorite go-to?
