What better way to start the weekend than to take a trip to the farmers market, chat up some local growers, bakers and artisans and return to the kitchen to make fresh, straight-from-the-garden favorites? The Abundant Kitchen allowed me to do just that and so much more!

Located in downtown Buffalo, The Abundant Kitchen is a supply store that offers gadgets, classes and moonlights (or morning beams) as a crepe stand on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month (June through October)! Yesterday, I attended the Farmers Market class given by Culinary Educator and Personal Chef, Jessica Tijerina that included a tour of the Buffalo Farmer’s Market where we picked up ingredients for lunch from local vendors who took the time to talk to us about their location, process and even some of their favorites.

After we carefully selected in-season ingredients, we headed into the kitchen at Abundant to rinse, rough chop, mince, and garnish with Jessica at the helm, explaining seasonality and the best ways to prepare our bounty. We made a chopped salad with a honey and garlic vinaigrette, baguette topped with garlic and heirloom tomatoes, and sautéed beets with horseradish cheese and finished with a local tart and brownies for dessert! It was divine. Such a fun and memorable experience!

The Farmers Market is just one of a solid roster of cooking classes including; Sauces, Date Night: Steakhouse, Friday Dutch Oven Cooking, Pizza, Cooking With & Caring For Cast Iron, Afternoon Tea & Scones Demo Class, Better Breakfast, Irish Bread, Fish N’ Chips, Vegetarian Cooking and they even have a Kids in the Kitchen series that covers things like Breakfast and Scratch Mac N’ Cheese!
