Betty’s Pies

No road trip along the North Shore is complete without stopping at Betty’s pies to curb my sweetness-craving.

Located in Two Harbors, along Highway 61 across from Lake Superior.

With a line out the door, it comes as no surprise that Betty’s touts the “World famous” moniker.

Beginning as a fish-shack her father Aleck opened in 1956. Betty began making donuts and serving coffee to the fisherman.

As the demand grew, she started selling hamburgers and hotdogs. In 1958, it became a full-fledged café, later expanding to include a lunch counter and her famous pies.

The demand has not stopped as Betty’s has remained a staple for locals and travelers alike, stopping on their way to their cabins and the resorts along the North Shore.

My reigning favorites; the blackberry peach crumble and the five-layer chocolate pie. I mean, the amazing old-fashioned pie crusts are worth the trip! I loved the hot chocolate, too! Ever been?
