(from site) The Foshay Tower was the first skyscraper built in the state of Minnesota and remained the tallest building in Minneapolis from 1929-1971. The Foshay Tower is significant to Minneapolis and the State of Minnesota not only as a unique example of architectural design and engineering, but as a prominent reminder of the taste and expression of “conspicuous consumption” which was felt throughout the United States during the economic boom years of the 1920s.
